A QUEEN ANNE SILVER KETTLE, STAND AND LAMP
MARK OF DAVID WILLAUME, LONDON, 1706
The kettle compressed pear-shape, the detachable cover with lobed border, with part-turned wood finial above applied cut-card ornament, with an overhead part-turned wood handle, the part-fluted spout with hinged cover, on conforming brazier form stand with central burner and on three scroll legs, engraved on the kettle and stand with a crest, the kettle later engraved with a coat-of-arms, the cover later engraved with a crest, marked under kettle, stand and lamp, on cover bezel and inside lamp cover, the kettle further engraved with a scratchweight '45=26' and under stand with scratchweight '43=12'

The crest on the kettle is that of Reade, probably for Sir Thomas Reade, 4th Bt. (1684-1752), Gentleman of the Bedchamber to George I, one of the Clerks of the Household to George II, and M.P. Cricklade, Wilts., who married in 1719 Jane Mary, daughter and co-heir of Sir Ralph Dutton, Bt., of Sherborne, Co. Gloucester. The later arms on the kettle and the crest on the cover were possibly engraved between 1752 and 1759 for Sir John Reade, 5th Bt. (1721-1773) following his accession to the barontcy and prior to his marriage in 1759 to Harriet (d.1811) daughter and heiress of William Barker of Sonning, Berkshire.
