Lot Essay



This clear, translucent watercolour shows a contemplative figure writing a letter to his 'best patients'. The figure of the writing man is sampled three times, partly overlapping each other. Above the composition Daniëls wrote "Oranje swingt, de wereld (...) Beste patienten, geen materiaal voor esth-ethiek" (Holland rocks the world (...) Dear patients, no material for ethics/aesthetics), a clear example of the artist capability for 'pictorial poetry'.
