Lot Essay

Probably painted around the same time as the previous lot, the present painting could hardly be more different. Most of El-Gazzar's visions of the future as seen in his Space Period are either unnerving or terrifying. In this strangely humorous work, however, his focus is not the mechanistic and impersonal but rather more intimate. Here he imagines what the two trend-conscious astronauts would wear in the Space Age, if fashion designers were to have their way with their outfits.
