The primordial forest is a recurrent motif in the work of both Suad and her sister Layla Al-Attar's work, and refer to a magical primitive world in the distant past, the world of Gilgamesh of ancient Mesopotamian legend and the Garden of Eden, also believed to be in Mesoptamia. The distortions of space and light heighten the sense theirs being unreal worlds. Lot 170 is quite different, its study of Moorish architecture reflecting Suad Al-Attar's experience at Assilah, the town on Morocco's north coast which hosts an annual festival for the arts.
