A LARGE SILVER CUP AND COVER
Dated 1810, possibly American, apparently unmarked
Campana-shaped, on square base with domed raised centre chased with a broad band of stylised foliage, the lower and the upper part of the body decorated with a further similar band on matted ground, with foliate loop handles each flanking a classical female mask, the domed stepped cover with acanthus bud finial, the body engraved with presentation inscription

The inscription reads Presented to Mr Richard Mc Call, D by the Underwriters in Testimony of the Sense they entertain of his Services in assisting to rescue from French Captors the Ship Mercury & her Cargo on the 25th day 1810 and in the Subsequent Navigation of said Vessel
