Lot Essay

The drawing reproduces, in the same direction, the composition of an engraving by Léon Davent (The Illustrated Bartsch, New York, 1979, XXXIII, p. 153; Bartsch XVI 310.1). The Davent etching is now thought to be related to a drawing after Parmigianino in the Musée du Louvre (inv. 6546 recto).
