Lot Essay

A pair of greyhounds of identical design is depicted as a garniture on top of a chimney-piece in Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration of 1807 (plate X) which shows the interior of his Duchess Street house (D. Watkin, Regency Furniture and Interior Decoration, New York, 1971, p. 39).
