Lot Essay

Throughout his life, Fairfield Porter spent most summers on the Porter family's Great Spruce Head Island in Penobscot Bay, Maine, where his architect father, James Porter, had designed and built the family house in 1912. The present work depicts a view from the porch of the house looking out over the ocean.

This lot is being sold by the Honorable Ethel J. Griffin, New York County Public Administrator, by the authority given her under Letters of Administration issued by the Surrogates Court of the State of New York, County of New York. No claim has been asserted by any person or entity contesting the Estates ownership of this work.
