Lot Essay
With its dossier en gondole, idiosyncratic husk swag-adorned cartouches to cresting and apron, and heart-shaped decoration to legs, this elegant bergère is closely related to one at Goodwood House, West Sussex, dated c. 1766, which formed part of a suite of seat furniture and is illustrated in S. Eriksen in Louis Delanois, menuisier en sièges (1731-1792), Paris, 1968, Pl. XXIII and p. 79.
Further related examples by the menuisier are illustrated Ibid., pl.XXII, while the present lot also closely relates to the oeuvre of Jean-Baptiste I Tilliard (1686-1766).
For further information on Louis Delanois, please refer to the catalogue note to lot 182.
