A blackstone stele of Tara
Northeastern India, Bihar, Eastern Ganga period, 11th century
Standing on a double-lotus base with the right hand lowered in varadamudra and her left hand holding a lotus, wearing a striated dhoti secured by a festooned belt, beaded jewelry including armbands and heavy earrings, the hair pulled into a high chignon and secured by a foliate tiara, flanked by worshippers and backed by a torana with a stupa and apsaras, a diminutive donor figure below
