Lot Essay

Graham Graham-Montgomery, 3rd Bt. of Stanhope, was the son of Sir James Montgomery, 2nd Bt. (see lot 54) and his wife Helen. In 1845 he married Alice Hope Johnstone (see lot 85). He served as M.P. for Peebleshire until 1868. From 1866 to 1868 he held the office of Junior Lord of the Treasury and he was Lord Lieutenant of Kinross-shire from 1854 until his death in 1901.
