AN EGYPTIAN LAPIS LAZULI WEDJAT-EYE
NEW KINGDOM, DYNASTY XIX, CIRCA 1279-1212 B.C.
Inscribed on both sides under feathered eyebrow, including cartouche of Ramesses II, one side reading: 'the good god, Lord of the Two Lands, User-maat-re, Setep-en-re', the other side: 'the good god, Lord of Appearances, Ra-messes (mery-Amun)', pierced for attachment, 1¼ in. (3 cm.) long; an 'Egyptian blue' wedjat-eye, 7/8 in. (2.2 cm.) long; and a steatite cylinder seal with name of Ramesses II, reading: 'the king of Upper and Lower Egypt, User-maat-(re), Setep-en-re, Son of Re, given life like Re,' circa 1279-1212 B.C.
