One depicting the crouching falcon-headed "Soul of Buto" before an offering stand with lotus flower, behind him a maat-feather on stand; one depicting the crouching jackal-headed dramatic "Soul of Nekhen" before an offering stand with lotus flower, a maat-feather on stand behind him, in the upper left corner a column of hieroglyphs reading: 'the blessed Osirid Nebu'; together with an Egyptian-style cartonnage fragment with the Weighing of the heart scene, probably inspired by the Book of the Dead from Hunefer

Lot Essay

The falcon-headed "Souls of Buto" and the jackal-headed "Souls of Nekhen", with arms raised in a dramatic gesture, represent the spirits of the primaeval Kings of Lower and Upper Egypt respectively.
