With thin brown glaze, the short cylindrical necks decorated either side of the twin handles with two vertical wavy lines between concentric circles, both with the bases of the handles with incised graffiti

Lot Essay

These so-called 'SOS' storage amphorae were used to transport commodities such as wine, olive oil, fish and pitch, around the Mediterranean in the 6th century B.C. Their name derives from the shape of the pattern decorating the necks.
