A NORTH DEVON SLIPWARE SGRAFFITO-DECORATED DATED ARMORIAL JUG
1791, BARNSTAPLE OR FREMINGTON
Of globular form, the brown ground applied with cream-coloured slip carved and incised with the crowned Royal Arms within the motto of the Order of the Garter above the motto of the Prince of Wales, with crowned lion and unicorn bearers below the initials GR, flanked by stylised roses, the reverse inscribed with a drinking verse above the name and date S. EVANS.1791, applied with a scroll handle, the neck with stiff leaf and scroll ornament (some restoration and overpainting)
