Lot Essay

The attribution to Hobbema has been confirmed in a written letter (dated 14 July 2008) by Dr. Frits Duparc after inspection of the original painting. Marijke de Kinkelder of the RKD, The Hague, also believes this lot to have been painted by Hobbema, based on a photograph (written communication, 18 March 2011). Both date the present painting to the early career of Hobbema.
