THE BOX HANAU, CIRCA 1830, WITH REMAINDER OF THE TOWN MARK, MAKER'S MARK RUBBED, THE ENAMEL PLAQUE ATTRIBUTED TO JOHANN DANIEL BERNEAUD (GERMAN, 1773-1861), SIGNED 'B. px'
rectangular box with rounded corners, the cover set with a rectangular enamel miniature depicting an alchemist seated at his desk with two assistants working behind him, within a band of opaque blue enamel, the lid applied with three-colour gold and platinum foliage and flowers, the base with trellis-work engine-turning and similar borders, with chased acanthus leaves at the corners, with a presentation inscription inside of cover which reads 'Von Sr Majestét dem Könige Friedrich Wilhelm III zum Geschenk erhalten am 6tn März 1839. J. Alberty'
