AN UNUSUAL WHITE JADE DRAGON BOAT
QING DYNASTY, LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY
Finely carved and pierced as large barge with a dragon-headed prow and a scroll-form stern, powered by twelve oarsmen intricately detailed along the sides and a boathand holding a long pole to steer the boat, the stern with racks of weapons and two large banners draped over the sides of the boat, the pagoda-like construction of the hull adorned with ceremonial canopies, banners and flags
