The yellow satin ground worked in coloured silks in the Arts and Crafts style, with meandering oak trees, grapes and yellow and white flower heads, within a scrolling framework

Lot Essay

Mrs Robert Benson was the wife of R H Benson, a trustee of the National Gallery from 1912 and a collector of paintings, Chinese porcelain and other works of art. Mr and Mrs Benson lived at Walpole House from 1926. The late Mrs Robert Benson's collection was sold at Sotheby's in 1945.
