PINO SIGNORETTA (I work glass as clay, the little subtlety which separates us is the heat.) Born in Favaro Veneto on the 28th September 1944 Pino Signoretto started working with glass from the age of ten and achieved the status of glass master in 1960. For the next eighteen years he honed his skills to become the complete glass artist and craftsman that he is and then opened his own studio in Murano in 1978. His work has been exhibited in Venice, in Japan at the Museum of Venetian Art in Otaru, Canada, Switzerland, France and in the United States of America from New York to California. In 1990 he created glass trophies for the European Basketball Championship in Paris and for the N.B.A. in the USA and in 1993 he created a series of 12 large fountains for Hotel American Gei Ken in Japan. In 1996 he created glass sculptures of insects for the Winter Gardens Korpus II in the Kremlin in Moscow and a life size model of a horse for the Biennale 1999 Venice Film Festival. To work with the heat and the molten nature of glass takes great skill but to do so on such a large scale is even more difficult. In 2003 he made a clothes rack in glass complete with several items of clothing which was displayed at the Housang Rachtian Gallery in Venice. His skill and reputation have brought invitations to demonstrate and teach his art internationally; in Venice, in the US at Tulane University, Toyama School of Glass, Pilchuck School of Glass in Seattle, and in Japan at Aomori Otaru. His virtuosity with glass has also brought him to the attention of many contemporary artists and he has successfully collaborated with Dale Chihuly, Lino Tagliapietra, Timo Sarpenava, Aldo Mondino, Sandro Chia, Marc Quinn, Hiroko Ueki and Jeff Koons to name a few.
