AN UNUSUAL LARGE ZITAN ARMCHAIR
19TH CENTURY
With scroll-form crest rail above the splat inset with a floating panel carved in low relief with a European leading a qilin above a bi disc carved with archaistic scrolls and flanked by addorsed chilong carved in openwork, the back and arm rails carved as archaistic scroll, the zitan seat set within the wide rectangular frame above a thumb-grooved waist and shaped aprons carved with further scrolls and bosses, all supported on thick legs of square section terminating in inward-curved hoof feet
