CASE: modelled with a figure of the general pensively seated, a scroll in his hand inscribed 'Justinien', with military trophy mounts, that to the front of the plinth inscribed 'BELISARIUS' and 'ROMANORUM', on lion-headed feet DIAL: engine-turned centre, painted chapters and Breguet hands MOVEMENT: twin barrels with silk suspension to anchor escapement and countwheel strike on bell

A general of the Byzantine Empire who served Emperor Justinian, Belisarius was instrumental in expanding the empire into its former western territories. He is considered one of 'the last of the Romans'.
