Lot Essay

In the Fleischmann collection, the picture had a pendant showing The Creation of Adam. The composition of The Fall of Man is known in at least two other versions, one in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Milan (inv. no. 69) and one offered for sale with Lempertz, Cologne, 29 October 1941, lot 11.
