A FINE, HISTORICAL MAP OF THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE, SIGNED BY BRITISH, AMERICAN AND GERMAN GENERALS. The shocking German attack on 16 December 1944 is depicted with the expanding red line, showing Manteuffel's panzers smashing through the American positions in the Ardennes and coming just short of the Meuse River by 26 December 1944. The successful American and British counter-attacks over the next three weeks are depicted in blue, and each of the seven Generals signs next to the identifying caption showing their location in the battle theatre: MONTGOMERY, Bernard L. (1887-1976) ("Montgomery of Alamein, F.M."); DEMPSEY, Miles (1896-1969) ("Miles Dempsey"); BLUMENTRITT, Gunther (1892-1967) ("Gunther Blumentritt"); RIDGWAY, Matthew B. (1895-1993) ("M. B. Ridgway"); MANTEUFFEL, Hasso-Eccard, Freiherr, von (1897-1978) ("F. v. Manteuffel"); BRADLEY, Omar N. (1893-1981) ("Omar N. Bradley"); DEVERS, Jacob (1887-1979) ("Jacob Devers"). Both of the German generals included here enjoyed a fairly easy rehabilitation into postwar life in the Federal Republic (Blumentritt had been a participant in the 20 July plot), and both served as consultants to American film treatments of the war during the early 1960s. A RARE ASSOCIATION OF LEADING FIGURES FROM THE THREE NATIONS FIGHTING IN THE ARDENNES IN DECEMBER 1944.
