Lot Essay

Born in Chenit, Switzerland, Henry-Daniel Capt was renowned for his snuffboxes with music and automaton scenes as well as his automaton watches. He used the musical mechanism with pinned cylinder and tuned teeth comb, among the first to do so in Geneva. He also was one of the first to introduce chronographs to Geneva. His automata are considered some of the best in the 18th and 19th century.
