With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1956 and its subsequent sale on August 21st, 1969. Further accompanied by a Patek Philippe black leather case.
The present watch is an exceedingly rare early version of reference 2497 in pink gold blessed with the sought-after elongated claw shaped fluted lugs and flat back. This variant was typical for reference's 2497 early production. The look is consequently more prominent and lends the watch a larger appearance. In fact, according to our research only 6 examples are known from this series.
Pink gold examples of reference 2497 are considered very rare trophies amongst collectors of complicated Patek Philippe wristwatches. This exceedingly small number is even more impressive once one splits the production of pink gold reference 2497 into the flat back and round back version.
In 1951, Patek Philippe launched reference 2497 and its water-resistant counterpart, reference 2438/1. According to literature, a combined total of only 179 examples of these models were produced.
Reference 2497 is generally divided into two different series:
- the first series, such as the present watch, with alternating applied gold Arabic and dot numerals and dauphine hands
- the second series with applied baton numerals and dauphine hands
