Lot Essay

Copies after four drawings which were originally at Chatsworth. The original of the caricature at top left, which was sold in the Chatsworth sale in these Rooms, 3 July 1984, lot 22, is now in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC (inv. 74585). The originals of those at top right, lower left and lower right all remain at Chatsworth (invs. 822C, 825B and 825A respectively; M. Jaffé, The Devonshire Collection of Italian Drawings, London, 1994).
