Lot Essay

Recorded together with a smaller pedestal at Monkton House, the property of Edward James, in a 1977 inventory for this property, as 'M453 A 19th Century mahogany square section torchere on platform base, 4'4" high, and a smaller ditto, 3'2" high' (Inventory and Valuation of the Contents of Monkton House, East Marden, Near Chichester, West Sussex by King & Chasemore, under 'Garden, Stables, Swimming Pool, Etc.', p. 35).
