THE BASE POSSIBLY THE ASHFORD WORKS, THE TOP PROBABLY ITALIAN, CIRCA 1840
The black marble square top inlaid with a games board enclosed by a bands of malachite and chevrons of various hardstones with shells and insects to the corners; the top probably purchased on the Grand Tour, with the base being commissioned for it on arrival in England
