Lot Essay

The name of Freeman as carvers, gilders and looking glass manufacturers and later cabinet-makers is associated with London Street, Norwich from the end of the 18th century, and C.J. Freeman working towards the end of the 19th century is probably a continuation of that same family lineage (The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986, p. 321; The Regional Furniture Society Journal, 1993, p. 119).
