Lot Essay

Franz (Frantisek) Bohumil Doubek was a well-known Czech artist in his day. He studied at the Munich Academy as pupil of Seitz and Liezen-Mayer. Doubek remained in Munich where he specialized in portraiture, genre and history painting. Numerous exhibitions of his works took place in major European cities such as Munich, Prague, Berlin and Vienna. Doubek was also known as a first-rate illustrator.
