Lot Essay

Gerard Jan Bos was a member of The Hague School. His father (Jan Bos) and brother (Willem Jan Gerard Bos) were renowned artists themselves. Gerard Jan Bos studied under his father and Jozef Hoevenaer. From 1878-83 he was a student at the Academy in Antwerp where his tutors were Charles Verlat and Piet van Havermaet. Thereafter, he worked in the studio of Willem Goets. He lived in The Hague, Diepenheim and Zuthen.
