Albert Guillaume, a Parisian, was a painter of the Belle Epoque. While mainly associated with poster art, his paintings of Paris society are very highly regarded. His posters were greatly influenced by the work of one of the preeminent poster painters, Jules Chret. Guillaume thrived during the international poster mania of the 1890s. Toulouse-Lautrec set the stage in 1891 with his famous poster, Moulin Rouge. Posters soon appeared from many of the era's great masters. Artists such as Livemont, Hermann-Paul and Mucha were among Guillaume's contemporaries.
