A buff sandstone relief with a goddess admiring herself in a mirror
India, Madhya Pradesh, 10th century
The goddess in tribhanga on a broad flat lotus, her right arm raised to secure a lock of hair and her left holding the handle of a mirror, her sensuous body clad in an ankle-length dhoti secured with a beaded and festooned girdle, adorned with a jasmine-bud necklace and billowing sash, her face in a sidelong glance with full lips and delicate features, standing within a niche flanked on either side by two registers of purna-ghatas and surmounted by archways bursting with further foliage
