FIRST EDITION of this rare collection of letters and essays relating to the Revolutionary War in America, French claims in Canada and French diplomatic and political affairs. Two of the essays on the Hessians in America are attributed to Mirabeau and Franklin. Mirabeau's letters about Canada describe French losses stemming from the treaty of Paris, and the history of French involvement in North America. Franklin congratulates the Hessians for their heavy losses at Trenton (since the Landgrave of Hesse would be paid more for higher casualties). Not in the standard bibliographies. Winsor VII, pt.
