Lot Essay

Birds, fish and animals were popular in export ceramics at the end of the eighteenth century in France and were often ormolu mounted and they appeared in many auction catalogues, for example, the Gaignat sale, 14th February 1769, which included Deux Carpes de porclaine du Japon.
