"AMERICA HAS GOTTEN THROUGH TOUGHER TIMES BEFORE" Obama sends words of encouragement to an unemployed former Marine. Charles Oliver was "53 years old and have been in the trades for 30 + years and was never to conserned [sic] about our future. Now I am sir. I've been unemployed for a year and have looked for work every day without any luck." Oliver had hoped to retire comfortably and help pay his grandchildren's education, but "that's out of the question for the near future. I'm awfully conserned about my future and the future of all workers my age and older who have to work..." Obama writes: I know things are tough right now, and I won't lie to you--it will probably take another year or two to fully dig our way out of this hole. But yes, we will be OK. Because America has gotten through tougher times before, and because of good people like you."
