Lot Essay

These small Italian landscapes are similar in size to a set of twelve prints of Small Landscapes with Italianate Buildings and Ruins etched by William Austin (1721-1820) after Cozens, which may have been used as models for Cozens pupils, however these two drawings were not engraved (for Austin's etchings see K. Sloan, Alexander and John Robert Cozens, New Haven and London, 1986, pp. 41, 44-45).
