Lot Essay

The Comité Marc Chagall has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

Neither Vence nor Paris could ever erase the memory of Vitebsk and the umbilical bond between the artist and his beloved childhood land. Le paysage au poisson bleu holds the painter and his family with floating animals between the grand monuments of Paris and the humble houses of Vitebsk. (ibid., p. 38).
