Lot Essay

The elegantly streamlined and reduced monolith Cylindrical From points to daring minimal sculptures in Milne's later works. As its title suggests, the composition is based on the simple but fundamental geometric form of a cylinder through which the sculptor intervenes with subtle modifications of the originating stereotype to establish its main creative and sculptural credentials. Cylindrical Form was issued in cold cast aluminum and polished bronze variations in 1969 and, later in 1974, another very different piece bearing the same title emerged.
