Lot Essay

A Louis XVI style bureau plat of nearly identical design by Paul Sormani (1817-1887) was offered together with its cartonnier: Sotheby's, New York, a Private Beverly Hills Collection, 16 Nov 2011, lot 285.

Two Louis XVI style ormolu-mounted mahogany commodes by Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener for Jansen, Paris, circa 1890 bear the same engraving to the lock. One sold Christie's New York, 24 April 2002, lot 171. The other, Christie's New York, 28 October 2003, lot 186.
