The Property of Robert Foxcroft Robertson-Glasgow, Esq. Part of the Library removed from Hinton House, Hinton Charterhouse, Bath. HINTON HOUSE and its contents were bequeathed by the widowed Mrs. SAMUEL DAY in 1846 to the present owner's maternal great-great-grandfather THOMAS JONES of Stapleton House, Bristol. Thomas Jones died in 1848, at which stage an inventory of the contents of the house, including the library, was prepared by English & Son of 21 Milsom Street, Bath, between August 23rd and 28th of that year. Thomas Jones was succeeded by his son EDWARD TALBOT DAY JONES who, in 1868, inherited a property at HALSTEADS, YORKSHIRE, belonging to the FOXCROFT family. Edward Talbot Day Jones thereupon replaced his surname with that of Foxcroft. ROBERT SLADE of Doctors Commons had married ELIZA FOXCROFT of Halsteads ca. 1800. Their son FELIX SLADE, who died in 1868, provided the funds for the Slade School, as well as making substantial gifts to the British Museum. The contents of Halsteads came to Hinton House. The property passed to Edward Talbot Day Foxcroft's son Charles who died in 1929. From him it passed to his sisters and thence to the vendor's mother who died in 1971.
