Lot Essay

Frédéric Soulacroix was the son of the painter and sculptor Charles Soulacroix and Giacinta Diofebo. He accompanied his father to Boulogne-sur-Mer in France, where he painted frescoes in the Notre Dame cathedral, and then in Paris. He entered the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence in 1876, six years after his family had returned to Italy. His paintings were particularly sought after among upper social circles in England, Germany, the USA, Canada, South America and Italy.
