A MAMLUK BINDING
EGYPT OR SYRIA, 15TH CENTURY
Comprising both boards and the flap, the brown morocco exterior tooled with central roundels filled with elegant leafy arabesque around a central rosette, triangles of strapwork around the edges, three rectangular panels of strapwork above and below, similar outer borders, the flap with central drop-shaped medallion filled with lotus spray, areas of scuffing particularly to spine, the interior plain but with later owner's sticker giving the name of Philip Hofer
Each board 14 7/8 x 10¼in. (37.9 x 26.1cm.)
