A treatise on Arabic language, Volume II, Arabic manuscript on buff paper, 90ff. plus two modern fly-leaves, each folio with 26 to 29ll. of sepia naskh script, headings and important words in larger script, occasional marginal notes, colophons in different hand, signed and dated and stating that this manuscript was copied in the madrasa al-Nizamiya in Baghdad, name of the scribe repeated in every section, old damages and losses towards the beginning of the manuscript, in later purple morocco with marbled paper boards, buff paper doublures

The work Al-Mujmal fi al-Lugha, is a small dictionary of familiar words and phrases, which gives the words' origins.

The third volume of this work, copied by the same scribe was sold at Christie's, King Street, 7 April 2012, lot 24. Another copy of the second volume, dated 60 years later than this manuscript sold at Christie's, King Street, 14 October 1997, lot 71.
