Lot Essay

Anne Bethell was the daughter of Sir John Cope (d. 1749), 6th Bt., M.P., of Bramshill, Hants and Hanwell, Oxon. She married Hugh Bethell of Rise and Watton Abbey (d. 1752). She had two sons, Hugh (1727-1772) who became and M.P. for Beverley, and William (d. 1799).
