A SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF GUANYIN
EARLY 19TH CENTURY
The figure is carved standing wearing long flowing robes decorated with incised stylised cloud motifs and wave borders to the hems. She is depicted holding a scroll in one hand and a string of prayer beads to the other. Her face is modelled with a serene expression, and her hair is pulled up into a tall coiffure beneath a cowl. The stone is of an opaque pale olive-green tone.
