Lot Essay

Christian Dior licensed his patterns to Bergdorf Goodman in the United States, who then sourced fabrics and manufactured the garments locally, creating made to order couture pieces for the American market.

Dior's La Cigale was shown as part of his fall/winter 1952-53 collection and was constructed in silver gray moiré silk, with long, fitted sleeves, smooth bodice and a skirt cantilevered at the hips.
