The Rolling Stones' 1975 U.S. tour became a huge commercial operation and one of their first tours to incorporate elaborate, theatrical stage sets. Charlie Watts helped supervise the design of the tour and the main stage set was an enormous lotus flower with hydraulic petals that folded around the band at the start of each show, along with other props such as a huge inflatable phallus and trapeze swings.
Annie Leibovitz and Christoper Sykes were commissioned to photograph this lavish tour. Andy Warhol took the photographs of Jagger posing that were later turned in to a limited edition screenprint. The relationship between the Rolling Stones and Andy Warhol had lasted many years - they first met in around 1964, when the Stones were invited to play at a birthday party for the Warhol starlet, Baby Jane Holzer, at the New York Academy of Music.
The original vendor's husband was a book designer who was commissioned by the Rolling Stones to produce this pictorial documentary of the 1975 U.S. tour. The book however was never printed as it was not deemed commercially viable at that time.
