Engraved title, 77 engraved plates (75 numbered and 2 unnumbered). (Minor marginal dampstaining at end, plate 40 with short marginal tear.) 19th- century calf, spine gilt (some light rubbing and staining). Provenance: Philippe Mys (owners name on front free endpaper, dated 26 June 1860). FIRST EDITION, of Bellori's early survey of the column of Marcus Aurelius. The column was erected in celebration of Marcus Aurelius victories against the Germanic tribes north of the Danube. Cicognara 3604.
BARTOLI, Pietro Santi (c.1635-1700). Admiranda Romanarum antiquitatum ac veteris sculpturae vestigia anaglyphico opere elaborata ex marmoreis exemplaribus quae Romae adhuc extant in capitolio aedibus hortisque virorum principum ad antiquam elegantiam ... notis Io. Petri Beollorii illustrata. Rome: Joanne Jacobus de Rubeis, 1693. Oblong 4o (388 x 510 mm). Engraved title and dedication, 82 engraved plates (numbered 1-84). (A few leaves stained or dampstained.) Modern blue cloth, original plain paper wrappers bound in, untrimmed preserving deckle edges, original stab holes preserved in gutter (cloth rubbed, two labels partially removed on upper cover, upper hinge starting, original wrappers repaired on verso). A CRISP COPY. Bartoli moved to Rome as a youth, where he studied painting under Jean Lemaire and Poussin; he eventually abandoned painting completely to focus on engraving.
